I step out and I find the cat just a few steps down the stairs to the cellar, he’s cornered and he knows it. I call my cat to me and she comes, immediately growls at the other cat for good measure but she makes no attempt to dislodge him. My cat sniffs at the ground for a while until I step away, when the other cat presumably walks up the steps and my cat makes threatening noises but doesn’t move. The other cat escapes without a fight, feels safe to stop within a few feet under the garden table and I scare him away.
